Is it something to be proud of? Not really. The pandemic, however, has increased my laziness ten-fold. I never thought this day would come, you know?
I’m too lazy for skin care.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the unthinkable has finally happened. Me — incredibly vain me — cannot muster enough strength to care about my skin.
I’m not depressed, in case you’re wondering. Or maybe it’s more like a Hulk thing? My secret is I’m always low-key depressed, hehehe.
Seriously, I think I’m just… demotivated? We’ve been in lockdown for almost a year now, and I guess that really fucked with my routine. Of course I still shower, let’s get that clear. I have not given up on hygiene. But taking just one more skin care step is a little too much for me right now, and I just can’t be bothered.
It’s too much work, y’all.
The good news is that God loves lazy people (I think) because otherwise why would He invent the fantastic Laneige Cream Skin Refiner?
(I’m clearly joking. Amore Pacific supposedly took 21 years to get the formulation right. God’s MO usually takes 7 days, give or take.)
There’s no getting around it: this stuff is weird. It’s technically a toner, but it also isn’t?
It starts out pretty runny, like watery milk. The minute you start patting it on your skin though, it gets a little… creamy? Almost like an emulsion, I would say, except it’s a lot less oily than most emulsions you’ll find on the market.
Even so, the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner stays really lightweight, so much so that I can use multiple layers of it and not feel suffocated.
I honestly think what makes it so unique is how light and refreshing it is. Normally, things that actually moisturize can be heavy, no matter the formula. Even gel moisturizers can be thick and hard to absorb when you live in a humid area.
I haven’t had that problem since I started using this toner. It absorbs nicely and my skin feels nourished for the rest of the day, minus any stickiness or heavy feeling.
I lucked out. I seriously did. I have a hard time finding good moisturizing products because there are a ton of ingredients that I can’t use. The usual dry skin favorites simply don’t work for me.
Caprylic/capric triglycerides give me huge cysts, as do some fatty alcohols like cetearyl alcohol. Hyaluronic acid — a fan favorite for dry-skinned folks — gives me rashes.
Thankfully, the Cream Skin Refiner has none of those things. Instead it has glycerin — an excellent hydrator if a little blah compared to the popular hyaluronic acid — and meadowfoam seed oil. That’s oil and water — two things you need to keep dry skin happy.
A lot of people focus way too much on the hydration part, but for someone with a compromised moisture barrier, there’s simply no way you’re holding on to that water. Dry skin needs oil to function properly, and the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner has the meadowfoam seed oil to do just that.
Oh boy. This is the laziest I’ve ever been when it comes to taking care of my skin, and my skin has never been better. I don’t know if it’s a cosmic joke, but if this is what skip care is about then sign me up. I’m never doing multiple steps again.
One problem I’ve always had with skin care products is that it’s a delicate balance. I have very dry skin with a genetically compromised moisture barrier, but I also live in an incredibly humid country. I need to keep my skin moisturized, but one wrong move and I’d end up in oil city, where blemishes await.
So I experimented a few times with hydrating toners, thick serums, and gel moisturizers. I’ve had good results, to be honest, but one tiny change in weather or hormonal fluctuations can leave my skin in the lurch. Plus it’s a constant battle to find moisture without that heavy, suffocating thickness.
Three layers of Laneige Cream Skin Refiner takes care of all that. As mentioned earlier, it has the right amount of oil and water in it, in the lightest formula that my skin can easily absorb. Finally my skin is healthy, glowing, and balanced.
Laneige has expanded the Cream Skin line thanks to its well-deserved popularity, so I also purchased the Cream Skin Mist. It’s just the Refiner in mist form, but lazy me has fallen madly in love with it. I have it next to me in bed so I can spray my face before I sleep. Sometimes I don’t even want to touch my face after washing so I just spray till I get the level of moisture I need.
I also have the Quick Skin Pack on the way to me right now, and I just know I’ll be even lazier from now on. I can stick those round pads on my face and spray till my pores yell stop.
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner is low-key, lightweight, and efficient. I’d argue it’s also the best skin care product to have with you during the apocalypse, but that’s a topic for another day.
